KETTERING TOWN TRAVELCLUB formally called The Pirates, was set up with the aim of running a coach to every away match in a season. and to have its own account so that any fundraising etc could subsidize longer trips and offer value for money.
The first ever meeting took place on 17th May 1983 under the chairmanship of Dave Tailby, and on that day a committee was elected, and some rules adopted including a guaranteed seat on the bus for members and democratically arranged stops on route , and we where accepted by the football club as the official travel organisation.
The stops chosen would be towns that catered for all passengers young and old , male or female, eg:- shops, cafes, tourist attractions and pubs, many pubs up and down the land today proudly display the KTFC-TRAVELCLUB pennants for being chosen 'pub of the year' chosen for there hospitality and beers etc.
The early years were highly successful ,with every fixture would warrent a full large coach we even took 70 coaches to Charlton and 40 to Blackburn in the FA cup, around 1990 the then Chairman of the Football club requested us to run a second coach for those preferring to go straight to and from the game, this was implemented and was highly successful with passengers swaping coaches as required, until 1992 when the straight home bus was getting regular users and they decided to split from us and become a separate organisation to be know as The Supporters Coach.
The Travel Club try to look on the brightside of following your team away, and we try to make a great family day out of our trips instead of going straight there and straight back , but the last few seasons have been made even more difficult what with some regular people leaving the club, and the new EEC regulations on drivers hours , so are homeward stops are shorter than years gone buy, but we still have a good day out whatever the result, However all is not doom or gloom we still have a hardcore of members travelling on The Travel club who continue to have great days out .....
